Autumn Feracol Operation – Phase 3
Today we’ll be removing any uneaten Feracol bait and making a note of how much has been eaten at the same time.
We need to do this to clear the forest of toxin as well as record bait take – important for tracking results, and we can compare bait take with previous years’ operations. Bring clothing and footwear suitable for walking off track, and a backpack containing water and any personal medication you might need. The bait is contained in paper bags but we will have disposable gloves if you need them. High viz vests available and we encourage you to wear one.
Cholecalciferol (the active ingredient) is an effective tool, targeting both rodents and possums, and is low residue in the environment. You can read more about it here. The timing of this baiting operation is designed to suppress the late-summer proliferation of rats and interrupt the autumn breeding cycle. Allergy warning: the bait does contain peanuts.
Join us back at the kohanga for a refreshing cuppa and home baked treat after you’ve completed your bait line.
