Offering:
Where groups want support with day-to-day financial management we can assist with:
- A standard chart of accounts
- Setting up a Xero account with a 25% subsidy through KPMG
- Treasurer succession support
- Records secured “in the cloud”
- Financial policy and procedure templates
Purpose:
Groups have advised that it can be a challenge tracking financial data over time with
changing volunteers, spreadsheets, or systems. An online platform means multiple
designated team members can access the data. It reduces volunteer hours in
processing and provides an opportunity to undertake cross sector reporting to look for efficiency gains.
Offering:
Where groups want to deliver environmental education opportunities to schools or community we can support with:
- A coordinated approach to nature education across members
- Planning the education messages and desired outcomes
- Delivery of education at member sites.
- Linking to other education opportunities or resources
Purpose:
Education is an important component to building an awareness around conservation challenges and solutions
Offering:
BCA has an in-house administration & finance support role. This is to support both BCA and member administration needs. We can assist with a range of admin tasks including:
- Helping to set up document management systems
- Creating basic promotional materials
- Sharing information across members
Purpose:
Sometimes help with the little tasks is all you need, so groups can focus on the real conservation work!
Offering:
We have developed a funding plan considering what role we can play in assisting members generate additional funding. Ways in which we will attempt to support include:
- Hosting donation capability on the BCA website so donations can be made to any of our member groups
- Develop a discretionary fund to support project and member needs.
- Work with funders to streamline funding processes and undertake combined funding applications for the membership base where viable.
- Explore BCA’s capability to become a fundholder for unconstituted member groups.
- Produce an annual funding calendar.
- Provide an endorsement letter for members own funding applications.
Purpose:
Improve funding efficiency, philanthropic contributions, and overall investment in conservation.
Offering:
Advocacy activities will include:
- Providing a lead voice or centralised contact point for community conservation. Central government agencies have indicated a desire for this local relationship who can then engage with the wider community on their behalf.
- Political influence – we seek to engage regularly with local MP’s. We will also seek opportunities to profile our region with key decision-makers.
- We will support individual members advocacy challenges.
Purpose:
BCA can deliver a louder voice as a collective compared to individual groups alone.
Offering:
Some of the project management or processes that groups need to undertake can be quite taxing. Examples of where we can offer support include:
- Allocate a BCA operational support person to each member group.
- Assist group with strategic and annual work programme planning.
- Undertaking toxin permit applications to Ministry of Health and the Department of Conservation.
- Assist with processes such as Wildlife Permit requirements.
- Supporting groups with health & safety planning
- Sharing resources such as SOP’s.
Purpose:
This is a key area that BCA can help professionalise and lighten the load on some of the planning and process requirements of groups.
Offering:
Maketu Ongatoro Wetland Society has over time trained some volunteers to now undertake paid contract work. There is an opportunity to make these and other contractors known to all members, so they can be utilised where ever this adds value. In addition, we will look for training opportunities to help upskill volunteers which may lead to paid employment opportunities.
Purpose:
We believe it is important to build each groups ability to deliver ecological outcomes through both volunteers and professional paid support, particularly where some sites present safety risks to volunteers.
Offering:
We hope to build a stronger collaborative effort. Examples of where we are engaging include:
- Manaaki Kaimai Mamaku Forum
- Te Maru o Kaituna
- Smart growth
- Pulling members together through the BCA board
- Predator Free BOP
- Flaxroots interagency forum
- Building relationships with DOC, BOPRC, councils, Envirohub, Iwi, NZ Landcare, QEII, Forest & Bird etc.
Purpose:
Like any desired outcome, working towards a common set of goals and in partnership increases the chances of success.
