Summerhill, situated on Reid Road in the Papamoa Hills, was bought by David and Cloie Blackley in 1959, initially operating as a sheep and beef farm. Over time, they introduced tree planting initiatives, transforming the landscape with a mix of native, pine and other exotic trees. In 2004, they opened the farm to the public, and the first mountain bike trails were created. David and Cloie wanted to preserve the farm and in 2012 they gifted 126 ha of it to the people of New Zealand and Summerhill Charitable Trust was formed.
